Dr. Kalam used to receive costly gifts whenever he went abroad as it is customary for many nations to give gifts to the visiting Head of state. Refusing the gift would become an insult to the nation and an embarrassment for India. So, he received them and on his return, Dr Kalam asked the gifts to b e photographed and then cataloged and handed over to the archives. Afterwards, he never looked at them. He did not take even a pencil from the gifts received when he left Rashtrapathi Bhavan. In 2002, the year Dr. Kalam took over, the Ramadan month came in July-August. It was regular pract...

Desire: the Starting Point of All Achievement

Image
The First Step to Riches:  A long while ago, a great warrior had to make a decision which ensured his success on the battlefield. He was about to send his  armies against a powerful foe, whose men outnumbered his own. He loaded his soldiers into boats, sailed to the enemy's country, unloaded soldiers and equipment, then gave the order to burn the ships that had carried them. Addressing his men before the first battle, he said, 'You see the boats going up in smoke. That means that we cannot leave these shores alive unless we win! We now have no choice-we win or we perish! 'They won. Every person who wins in any undertaking must be willing to burn his ships and cut all sources of retreat. Only by so doing can one be sure of maintaining that state of mind known as burning desire to win, essential to success. Every human being who understands the purpose of money wishes for it. Wishing will not bring riches. But desiring riches with a state of mind that becomes an obsession, th...

Three Feet from Gold...

Image
One of the most common causes of failure is the habit of quitting when one is overtaken by temporary defeat. Every person is guilty of this mistake at one time or another. R. U. Darby, who later became one of the most successful insurance salesmen in the country, tells the story of his uncle, who was caught by the 'gold fever' in the gold-rush days, and went west to dig and grow rich. He had never heard the saying  that more gold has been mined from the brains of men  than has ever been taken form the earth. He staked a claim and went to work with pick and shovel. The going was hard, but his lust for gold was definite. After weeks of labor, he was rewarded by the discovery of the shining ore. He needed machinery to bring the ore to the surface. Quietly, he covered up the mine, retraced his footsteps to his home in Williamsburg, Maryland, and told his relatives and a few neighbors of the 'strike'. They got together money for the needed machinery and had it shipped. The u...

An artist once came to a King, who was a great admirer of art and said, "Oh King! if you give me a blank wall in your palace. I can create a spectacular painting on it."Just then, another young man who was present their said to the King, " Your Majesty! Please allow me to work on the opposite wall as well. I am an artist too." The King asked to the young man? "And what would you like to make?" The man said " I shall make an exact replica of the painting that the other artist makes on the wall opposite to mine. And I shall do so, without even looking at his work. I would request you to place a thick curtain between the two walls so that neither of us can see the other's work, and also have guards to make sure that there is no cheating. "Everyone in the court, including the King , was intrigued and the king decided to give both artists the opportunity to show their talent. The following day a thick curtain was put ...

Life is the Greatest Enterprise in the World...

Image
A Speech by Pope Francis: (" Hope you spare some time to read this & reflect on it...") You can have flaws, be anxious, and even be angry, but do not forget that your life is the greatest enterprise in the world . Only you can stop it from going bust. Many appreciate you, admire you and love you. Remember that to be happy is not to have a sky without a storm, a road without accidents, work without fatigue, relationships without disappointments. To be happy is to find strength in forgiveness, hope in battles, security in the stage of fear, love in discord. It is not only to enjoy the smile, but also to reflect on the sadness, It is not only to celebrate the successes, but to learn lessons from the failures. It is not only to feel happy with  the applause, but to be happy in anonymity. Being happy is not a fatality of destiny, but an achievement for those who can travel within themselves. To be happy is to stop feeling like a victim and becomes your destiny's au...

How to Manage Anger

Image
One Who Tolerates your Anger Deserves your Love... The Boss was retiring. Everyone had tears in their eyes on the day of his farewell. One of the employee said, "Sir, there is one thing we want to learn form you. You worked here for so many years. Leave aside about scolding your subordinates, we have never seen you even shouting at them. We have scolded our subordinates on pressure of work or for other reasons. We want to know about the seed of your patience." The Boss said, "This all comes from the incident of my childhood. My father was working as a lower level employee in an office. He was a very nice person. He was respected very much in our family. It happened one day, I was studying  in the 4th standard. I had gone to the office of my father for some reason. I saw that my father was not on his seat. I waited outside. After sometime the door of the Boss opened, my father came out of the door. I saw the fair face of my father had turned red. Discover The Power Of Simplicity Simplicity is clarity, directness and purity. It is freedom and complication, clutter and confusion. You can be luxurious and elegant, yet simple. In fact, simplicity is the ultimate sophistication. It is moving away from having lots of things without thinking to a stage where every possession serves a purpose. You have all you need without the excess that prevents you from enjoying it. The over-consumption trend started in the 1990's with the great American Dream that impelled us to go on a buying spree. To support all of this there is ever-increasing pressure to earn more. In the beginning you thought a certain income would make you rich. You get there and find it is not enough! Even the affluent find a huge gap between income and desires. The more you have, the more you want. Simplicity makes for success, peace, focus and happiness. The number one barrier to achieving simplicity is lack of awareness. view your life from a different p...

Why you should praise Dr. Manmohan Singh

Image
There has been lot of electoral fuss going on recently and quite rightly so. India is electing its leader. Technically, In a democratic country like India, the prime minister is the chief of the government elected by the people, chief advisor to the president, head of the council of ministers and leader of the majority party in parliament. Our country has seen as many as 13 prime minister after independence and the tendency of the people to relate the functioning of the prime minister to the country's fortunes is quite extensive. People hail PMs like Indira Gandhi, P V Narsimha Rao for their sheer adherence to some of the decisions the have taken. This very nature of the people to look for a particularly flamboyant person is what the results show in recently concluded elections. But have we recognized the person who reticently but  willfully served our nation with selflessness? Have we paid enough tribute to the man showed the world about the greatest economy turn around and it...
