A Glimpse of Ancient Indian Astronomy. #part-02

Do you know which star is the closest to the earth, When I was student my teacher asked the question to me and at that time my answer was sun, and the answer my teacher expected form me was "Proxima Centauri" but i surprised him by saying it is the sun. But yes it is granted.

But the next closest star to the earth was "Proxima Centauri". It is approximately about 4.2 light years from the earth. Do you know what about ancient called the 'Proxima Centauri' is "Mitr" (Meaning- the friend), is that's a coincidence? that they named the closest star as 'Mitr'. It also  shows that they know the difference between planets and stars.

  • Here is the Modern value of speed of light 186,282.397 miles/sec. Now just look after to this 'Shloka'.
One 'Nimisha' is the amount of time need to blink your eyes and 1 'Yojana' is around 8-9 miles. this particular 'Shloka' that you see here is actually the formula to calculate the speed of light and if you check out modern value of speed of light: 186,282.397 miles/sec. and at the same time look you  will find that it is remarkably close to the ancient value of the speed of light: 185,096.165 miles/sec.

I could go on and on above astronomy but i want to end with two things, which are not astronomically related but absolutely fascinating about them.

The first is if you look at the pillar standing outside the Qutub Minar in Delhi today. It is made of iron and that iron is rust proof, the terrible pollution of Delhi, the crazy fumes, the moisture all that has done nothing to this pillar. There is no doubt  about that it is iron and doesn't rust and till today we don't have the technology to create rust proof iron. It is not the only pillar that is unique or alone, there are many such pillars scattered through out country. Some are in very remote villages. Which meant to ability to create this is not an elitist thing, but normal general people know how to make them.

So, rust proof iron would be the dream and the dream was realized long time ago in the country and we have still not figured out how  to make it.

I would like to look after the shloka. It is the one of those many sholka that are in the phrase of lord Krishna but their is a secret here:

Translation: Oh, Krishna the fortune of the Gopis, the destroyer of the demon madhu, the protector of the cattle, the one who ventured the ocean depths, destroyer of the evildoers, one with plough with shoulder and the bearer of nectar may (you) protect (us) !

If you take first letter of the word and replace with them by so on as shown in the table then this particular shloka is exactly the encoded value of pi upto 31 decimal points.

When I first time saw this I really blew my mind. This guys know how to do encoding, these guys knows the value of pi, these guys does it in devotional poet in shloka.

If you wondering how our ancient people knew all this my pet theory is because they meditate. did you know? India is the only civilized nation in which science and spirituality were never at logger head with each other. In fact all are scientist, they knew to go outside and also to go inside.
